Dear Friends, Tonight's episode was one of TBAA's best. It reminded me of A SUDDEN SNOW AKA: INSTANT SNOW from the 1st year of TBAA but only in the sense that it involved a love triangle. A SUDDEN SNOW reminded me of 2 ladies I had worked with. One eventually introduced me to my current residence. This woman, now deceased lied about her age to a married man to get him to ask her out. He even gave this woman an engagment ring even though he was never going to split with his wife. Last year the woman I speak of passed away not ever marrying this guy she had helped cheat on his wife. My God forgive about talking on this subject. However A SUDDEN SNOW reminded me of it & the love triangle connection part tonight did as well. Also I gal I became friends with at work was having an affair with a married man who was not spliting with his wife. Since I saw this gal daily & we both watched TBAA I had told her, without mentioning any names, how A SUDDEN SNOW reminded me about some people I knew. She became uncomfortable about discussing the episode & never mentioned about HER FRIEND again. I hope this episode & tonight's gets her thinking more & more about the dangers & consequences on spouse cheating & being part of a love triangle. I do believe in god & his unending love. TBAA has helped me reinforce my convictions further. Thanks! Best always! Regards, Will P.S. Don't be suprized the next 2 weeks if the NCAA Basketball Playoffs kicks TBAA off for a couple of weeks. We'll have to wait & see. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 9 Mar 1997 23:09:43 -0500 (EST) From: Finabair @ ..com To: TBAAngel @ .execpc.com Subject: Fwd: Personal Info --------------------- Forwarded message: From: weiler25 @ ..com (Mariann 0:)) To: tbaangel-d @ .execpc.com Date: 97-03-09 22:22:44 EST Hi. Especially that all the troops were brought in for this one. Although I do think that the woman's unfortunate death was just a ploy to be able to tie things up neatly at the end of the episode. Anyway While watching last night's episode, my Fiance observed something. After the woman dies, we get a wide overall camera shot of the room. Did anyone else noticed that the pattern on the floor tiles were an array of crosses? After that shot we looked at the other black and white tiles and they did not match the pattern. I would say we were reaching if it wasn't for the fact that the other floor tiles were different. (I can just here people rewinding their VCR's.) Be angelic! Obviously, some people are having a strong negative reaction to a fictional character, and others like the character and would rather not see such a negative reaction. You're all entitled to your opinions, but please try not to get personal in your comments. Thanks, everyone! OK, back to your regularly scheduled discussion. I am very happy that the list is on again, and tough I am 'lurking' in the background most of the time, I am glad that you all are out there! I do not know how many people from Europe are on this list, but I get the impression that there are not too many. There's something I have to share with you. It has to do with TBAA. However, I need to explain a little about Switzerland in case you are not too familiar with the country. Switzerland has no language of its own, instead German, French and Italian are spoken in the different parts of the country. In the German speaking part, many people watch TV programs from Germany, and they are much more popular than the Swiss German programs. In the French part of the country it's different. There, the French Swiss channel beats the stations that come in from France. Well, what's all of this got to do with TBAA, you might ask. A lot! Last year, the first season of TBAA was shown on German TV. But they never showed season #2, and when I called the station to ask when they would bring the episodes from the second season, they told me that they were not even sure if they were going to buy the rights to broadcast them. I was very sad about that, as I feared that TBAA would no longer be available to people in Germany and Switzerland. Some weeks ago, I wrote to a dear friend whom I met on this mailing list (though never in person, but this is the wonderful thing about the internet), that I was determined to do everything necessary to bring TBAA back to the screen in Germany. I also told her that I was not exactly sure what it was that I was supposed to do, but that I would start by writing a letter to the station. And I also told her that I knew that God would help me in this endeavour. I started to contemplate what I might write to the TV station. Two weeks had passed since I wrote to my friend, and finally I had made my mind up about what I was going to say to the TV station. Then, I casually checked the TV listings for I wanted to see if there was anything that I would want to watch. And there it was, in the listing: RTL2 (the German station) announced that they would broadcast TBAA again from the very next Sunday! I was thrilled, and I really thanked God for that! I was so glad, but that is not even the end of the story. Two weeks ago, the Swiss French channel TSR started to broadcast TBAA, all the episodes from season 1 and 2! (I am afraid that we will have to wait quite some time for season 3 over here.) And the best of it is that by use of the European two channel TV sound system, TBAA is shown in French and English simultaneously on TSR! So now, the people in Switzerland can watch TBAA, *and* they have the choice of watching it in either English, German or French! Isn't that great? And about four weeks ago, there was no TBAA around here at all! I'm sorry this got so long, but I hope you understand how much this gladdens my heart... Love, Hugo ------------------------------------------------------ (This is for Julia: I got your mail; thank you so much. Hi everybody, My name is Rebecca and I live in a VERRRY small town on the coast of Maine. I am originally from Southern California, but have lived in Maine for a year and a half. I am married and have a 2 year old daughter and a 7 year old stepson and a 10 year old stepdaughter. I am technically a "stay-home-mom", but I do have my own business. I do bookkeeping, accounting and tax-preparation out of my home, so, as you can imagine, this is a very busy time of year for me! I don't have much time to watch TV, but I always make sure to catch TBAA and ER. I try to catch Friends and Law & Order when I can. My hobbies include cross-stitch type needlepoint, photography and I'm an amateur history buff. I am involved in the local historical society and live in a house that is over 200 years old and that my husband is convinced is haunted. They must be friendly ghosts, though, because I have never had a problem with them! :-) I like to think of them as my own personal angels watching over all of us. Well, I guess that is all for now. Have a good one! And that's what happened with this episode. The minute the girl said she was going to be with her family, I guessed she was pregnant. The minute we found out she had high blood pressure, I knew she was going to die by the end of the episode so the married couple could reconcile and raise the child as their own. I don't *like* being able to second-guess the plot. I kept hoping they'd take a side-twist-- that the girl would be the husband's daughter (from before their marriage) or not be carrying *his* child or something.... But they didn't. They did exactly what I expected. Mind, it's not a *bad* episode, just predictable. Oh, am I the only one who thinks she remembers the "Greek chorus"-- that nosy woman in first class-- playing an angel on an earlier episode? Diane E # "Nothing that is made by God is queer." The "Greek chorus". I *love* it. Alice Ghostly, whom I usually adore (Esmeralda and Bernice were perennial faves of mine on "Bewitched" and "Designing Women", repsectively), was the only part of this ep that I didn't like. I thought that she was extraneous and overdone and unnecessary. I don't remember her from any previous eps of TBAA, but poor Alice does seem to always play the exact same character in everything, so she's always *very* familiar..... I agree with Diane E. that this ep was *way* predictable; I caught the same cues and made the same correct guesses at the same places. *sigh* I did like a lot about this ep anyway; it's the one that I've been most impressed by in a couple of months of what I've considered very mediocre material. I was *very* impressed with some of the dialogue. I liked the comments about the revolutionaries in the street and Mrs.-Dr. Salter saying that she would probably have joined them. :-) I liked the comment about having an affair with a younger woman being a sure way to help a troubled marriage (sarcasm is our *friend*). I liked the list Mrs.-Dr. Salter gave Andrew of what the marriage had survived. I liked the look on Andrew's face when Celeste poured the drink on him and told him Sam was there. I *really* liked the actor who played Mr.-Dr. Salter; I think he did some truly excellent work. I loved the *lostness* and continual shock that he managed to call up as his wife delivered his child, as he realized that he hadn't understood what it was that she did as part of her job. I thought they handled a number of things exceptionally well. The confrontation between Drs. Salter when Mrs.-Dr. Salter sees that her husband was very realistic. Too often on television, imo, we see people get angry and hurt and have huge, screaming fights, no matter where they are. In my experience, most people will be more likely to protect their privace as the Salters did and have the confrontation in low tones if they are in public when the dispute happens. The medical stuff was also handled very well. This is one of the first TBAA eps where I haven't had much call to nitpick the medical information. I think that part of what they've done is to learn to avoid giving too much specific information; it's often better to be vague than to be specifcally wrong. :-) And all too often they really blow it with medical accuracy--especially in procedure. This time, the only real complaint I had was that they left the young mother alone in the exam room. At first I thought that she had already died and Monica and Andrew were talking to her *after* she was dead to this world, but then she coded at the *end* of the conversation, so that blew that theory. I did like Callisto, er, *Celeste* (Hudson Leick) in this ep. I think that they progressed and matured her character too quickly; I don't believe that with just a couple of assignments under her belt that she would go from timid, hiding, running-away Celeste to this calm, confident, competent person. Perhaps the earlier ep was just a moment of panic that wasn't meant to reflect her usual personality (especially considering that if she didn't have the potential, she wouldn't have been *assigned* to case work, assumably), but it still seems like an extremely (and for me, unbelievably) accelerated recovery from pathological shyness. Amilyn ---- I could confuse them to death; you know I could do that. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Mar 1997 22:11:56 -0800 (PST) From: john flanders To: Kevin Brown cc: tbaangel @ .execpc.com Subject: RE: TBAA/PL crossover (was Re: TBAA Book) On Mon, 10 Mar 1997, Kevin Brown wrote: > > From: Kevin[SMTP:kda1 @ ..edu] > > > Could someone please enlighten me on this man's redeeming > > > > qualities, if he has any? > > He doesn't.
