"In the Name of God". Monica's assignment is a man who was Tess' assignment years ago. Then, the little boy was abused by his racist father. Tess was the housekeeper. Now, the man has turned his back on what Tess taught him and is part of a racist, militant organization led by a local politician. When confronted with the truth, the man asks that God reveal the truth to him and it turns out the local politician is Satan himself. My favorite scene is after Tess loses her temper after hearing the "little boy" speak like a hate monger. They're driving down the road and Sam's standing in the middle of the road. They stop and he walks up and says "I guess you know why I'm here. Someone wants to talk to you." LOL! I missed most of the first season. This was the first time I saw Sam. I don't know if it's the first time he appeared. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Mar 1997 11:35:20 -0800 From: "Jeanette M. Beland" To: Tbaangel @ .execpc.com Subject: Introductions Hello there- I have been lurking for the past couple of days and have finally got the courage :-) to drop a little introduction note. My name is Jeanette- straight from the L.A. area (actually Manhattan Beach). Been here for about 4 years. I fell in love with TBAA about mid-second season when there was a big push for people to watch it. Saw it in the trades (the huge ad that was placed by guest stars of the past episodes). The first one I saw was the Gregory Harrison episode. I lost it at the end of the episode when Monica wound up washing his feet and then delivered a message. All I could do was cry my eyes out. That's when I started watching. As a Christian and former minister (Children's Ed/Family Ed) I was/am always amazed at how "far" MW has been able to take the content of the angelic messages and how many of them are directly attributed to the Bible. The writers are definately doing their homework! From that point on it was Dr. Quinn and TBAA (sniff sniff sniff) on Saturdays. and now Sundays TBAA as a regular part of my week. I have tried to get into PL, but my weeknights are full of school (graduate program in interior design), gym and relationship building. Wish they would move it to weekends. The episodes still seem a little slow as though they are still attempting to find their "voice". By accident one Sunday morning I wound up in the church service that Della pastors. Quite interesting. There is not much difference between her "preaching" mode and her delivery of "Tess-speak" each week. (by the way, have you noticed that Tess' lines seem to be getting smaller- Smokescreen and Groundrush being the exception that I can remember). Anyway, I am droning on and on hear. It is nice to be a part of this dialogue. I look forward to hearing more from you all. Also, any way that I can get a copy of TBAA in French? I speak and understand French (courtesy of missions in Paris) and would love to hear what an episode sounds like. Monica was delivering simple truths like "seize the day", etc. Meg takes those to heart and decides to practice those. But right before she does this, Tess shows up and informs Monica of her actual duty which was to keep Meg off that plane. I felt for Monica as she watched Meg leave the hospital determined to fly to Paris and seize the day. But even though Meg wasn't supposed to be on that plane, things happened that helped Meg face the truth. talk to you later. Don't even say that word...as John Weaver pointed out, CBS has changed the TBAA Web page into a marketplace with, I think, is more about PL than TBAA. It used to be in the spirit of TBAA...I've removed by bookmark. Dorothy and others have said, I too feel that TBAA lost something >and I miss it very much. I usually get really emotional over majority of >the episodes but lately, I get kind of a blah feeling after watching. It >is missing the charismatic essence it once had and I hope this trend does >not last long or TBAA will lose viewers. I could not agree more. First, it seems they are using the success of TBAA to market PL. Secondly, it's, also, like a football game where a team charges successfully down the field, only to change methods within the 20 yard line and fail. I've never known why. TBAA has changed, IMO. For example, TBAA's success, IMO, was on the strength of Roma Downey, Della Reese, and the reparte between the two. Now then they introduced Andrew (sorry gals) and now that other gal as central characters rather than guests. Actually Roma and Della have faded from center stage that last few eps...or so it seems to me. Gone as well are the hats and "perching" (seems also, the introduction & ending pieces where fun exchanges were made...and the dove). This last ep...Andrew was a "case worker" and Roma the "angel of death." Perhaps Roma is focusing her time on her baby and Della is tired...still, ISTM, they have abandoned what made them successful. Also, any new converts made through the exposure of Roma and Della on talk shows and magazines, won't find them center stage in the show. Amilyn and others are correct, IMO. Its hard to maintain a successful show. Also, in the beginning, Martha resisted the "marketers," to insist on quality...or so the first article I saw in Guideposts. That balance has now been swayed, IMO, by $$$. The fans, it seems, has noticed...I hope Martha will notice as well. Finally found a copy of the tbaa book, I haven't had much time for reading beyond my "have-to" stuff, but it's on my to-do list for spring break. You go right ahead and talk about PL if you want. You didn't what side you're on, but the most outspoken combatants seem to be me & g Kevin. Dorothy is keeping her head low, but I don't think she'll be able to resist for long. The show generates strong opinions. Myself, I think it's, well, poor and CBS is refraining from pulling the plug because they need MW. The dirtiest trick on network lately was 1) Air an episode of PL in TBAA's timeslot AND under it's name, then 2) Force the TBAA fans who will grudgingly want to finish the story to tune in PL's timeslot. It airs the same time as Nova here, so boy was I annoyed. I think these and similar tactics are dragging TBAA down, and it's the best show since the Outer Limits (IMNSHO).
