Still, after seeing RIverdance, and a special on A&E on Irish in America, it makes me feel, well, I don't know, to tell you the truth. Makes me feel part of an amazing heritage and lineage. John C. Joe Morton was Dr. Miles Dyson in Terminator 2 (the guy who Linda Hamilton's character went to assassinate because he had created the first bit of technology that had led to SkyNet and the whole Judgement Day scenario). He was also Monica's lawyer in "Jacob's Ladder", with Cindy Williams as Claire, an angel who had met Morton's character (whose name currently escapes me) in Vietnam. Claire was in a mental hospital because she had claimed to be an angel, and Monica was committed for making the same claim, then realized that Claire was a real angel and helped her remember how to *be* an angel again. "Jacob's Ladder" is, imo, one of their truly excellent episodes. It was the first glimpse I got of Roma doing something other than just her standard Monica mannerisms; when they first hospitalized Monica, they gave her psychoactive drugs, and she flipped out. It was an interesting look into Roma's range beyond "sweet little Monica", because she was confused and borderline violent, flinging lines like, "I could snap you like *that*" at the lawyer and psychiatrist when they come to check on her. The entire interrogation at the beginning after Monica is found holding a large paper bag of cocaine is an absolute delight. Monica is pleasant and helpful to the police, gamely answering all their questions....unfortunately, her answers sound for all the world like she *is* a drug dealer from the cops' perspective, "It's hard to think of things like borders in my line of work" and the like. :-) Monica saying in court, "I want to plead crazy" was precious. When she and Claire go into angel mode at the end of the ep, there is this nice institution employee who chooses that moment to peer in the door, always prompting the peanut gallery comment, "Um, the patients are *glowing*" as his thought process. :-) I just *love* this ep. I mentioned earlier that TBAA lacked the "charismatic essence" in its recent episodes but "Jacob's Ladder" did have it (imo). I bawled my eyes out at the ending when Joe Morton read the plaque for the city building. His " Vietnamese foster daugher" did come to the United States and grew up to be a wonderful person. She named the children's home after him (I think). Simply WOW!..... Hi folks, I just got back from being away this weekend. Last night I sat down (actually laid down on the comfy couch) to watch sunday's TBAA. Obviously the BB game went long so I only got the first 40 minutes of the show. Can anybody tell me what happened after Tess confronted the Parents? The last thing I remeber her saying is that God is everybody's Father and earthly parents are custodians to the children. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Blessings! The > last thing I remeber her saying is that God is everybody's Father and > earthly parents are custodians to the children. > Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Here's the rest of the story. I'm going to include the word SPOILER for those who have not yet seen the show. Hank sneaked into Noah's room, woke him, apologized for being so mean to him, and told Noah "No matter what happens, you'll always be my little brother." As Hank left Noah's room, Monica revealed herself to Hank and told him that he did the right thing because he loved his brother. God loved both of them, and no matter what happened, God would help Hank and the rest of the family see this through. The day came for the biological father, Grant, to visit the house. Tess told the adoptive parents this was a first step, and it would take time to reunite Noah with Grant. It was obviously emotional to Grant to see his son again after so many years. He didn't blame the adoptive parents, because he realized that they didn't know and "It's all right now". After seeing Noah (John was the name Grant gave to him), Grant decided Noah should stay with his adoptive parents, and when Noah was ready, he would know about his biological father. In the meantime, Noah invited Grant to his birthday party. At the end of the ep, Monica made a sundae to celebrate a job well done. BTW, the sundae had "cherry cola, chocolate sundae, mocha latte, and a few french fries for good measure!" Tess: "Is this a reward or a punishment?" Andrew "...Everything in here is much better by itself." Monica: "But we three were better together." Tess: "You got that right. We had six hands and we needed every one of them!" ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Mar 1997 18:13:30 +0000 From: texas @ L..ie (Eamon) To: tbaangel @ .execpc.com Subject: Re: Happy after St. Pats Day Hi, I think you must have been the only American left in the States on Paddy's Day. :) judging by the crowds of Americans in our pubs listening to our music and dance over the Patrick's weekend. Yes we here in Ireland are very proud of our culture and also of Roma's success on TBAA. Pity we have to wait a bit longer for it to return to our screens. It is a fantastic programme. Also being renewed were Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman and Walker, Texas Ranger. Not that there was any doubt with Sunday's episode being the highest rated drama and the highest rated CBS program. That, too, is one of my favorite episodes. When Monica "plead guilty" she revealed one of her most endearing qualities...caring and thinking of others before herself. By going back into the hospital without angels powers was putting herself at risk, but to be with Claire (?). She did exactly the same thing in the recent episode where she was on trial. Having lost her angelic powers and potentially her being as an angel, she prays for the fallen angel who tricked her into missing her interview...name? In "Interview with an Angel," another of my all time tops, that was exactly what she asked the surgeon to do to...set aside his anger, hate, and vengeance, to help the man who killed his children. Monica's character may have the gift of "Truth," but she also has a mixture simplistic self-delight (coffee & sundaes) and enormous self-giving as those two "Monica on Trial" episodes. From my viewpoint, our society certainly could use more thinking of others first. Way to go Monica. By the way happy belated St. Patr icks day. I am curous if anyout there knows what denomination Roma is? I am just curious. sorry abut my spelling i really should work on it. I think it sort of comical that JOHN DYE should play the angel of death. The only humor I find in t hat is that it sort of is a play on words useing his last name. just thought I w ould add that. well have to run thanks an hope you all have great day. :) sincerely yours, Brian K (tsbfk @ .L.edu) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Mar 1997 17:34:01 -0500 (EST) From: AMarsh8597 @ .L.com To: tbaangel @ .execpc.com, TBAAngel @ .execpc.com Subject: John Dye as case worker vs angel of death Yea in last Sunday's ep they needed all 6 hands to make the 6 puzzle pieces fit. But IMO, I think John Dye's gift lies in being the angel of death. To go in, get the job done, and move on. He doesn't seem to have the patience of a case worker. Although in Sunday's ep we did see how his lack of patience for human's being human did work because they did not have a lot of time to work with. In the previous ep, with the man & wife & lover on the same plane, and how Andrew was made to be a "case worker" just didn't quite work for me. Don't get me wrong I LOVE John Dye and his character. Maybe it's the mere thought that I'd follow him anywhere. :) O:) just my 2cents. Don't >get me wrong I LOVE John Dye and his character. I also love John & Andrew, but the case-worker thing didn't work so well for me in either of the past 2 episodes. Probably because he did such a *great* job in "The Journalist" and even in "The Quality of Mercy" (His *delight* in being in the program and that silly little smile while on stage during the snippet of Henry V were beyond adorable!) But Andrew has been doing the case-worker thing again. How about "Sins of the Father"? Yeah, he did AoD stuff there, but the whole car-thread was caseworker stuff. He's been much too involved with caseworker stuff to have the "I'm not prepared" scene with Sam. When I first started watching TBAA and was catching up on some of the episodes I missed I used to kinda smile to my friends and announce "And here's the glowing sequence and 'I am an angel sent by God' scene" It was highly predictable, but very touching. Though they've done it in pretty much every episode I still thing it is done very effectively. What I can't quite put my finger on anymore is the fact that so much of the rest of the dialog seems predictable. I can't remember any specific examples in the "husband, wife, lover, baby on plane" episode (Title, anyone?) but so much of it seemed so predictable and expected. And some of the actors, most notibly the wife, seemed emotionally detatched from the lines on occasion. Like they were reading from a script, not speaking from the heart. The dialog has become predictable far too often. That, if anything, is one thing that I think Roma is *perfect* at. Reading from the script and reciting the lines but making it seem as if she's speaking from her *heart* alone. All 3 angels are spectacular at speaking from their hearts. Roma seems to hit it *every* time. I still love it, but I don't get as weepy as often anymore. Not sure why...
