Some of the questions were more specific to Martha, but Della answered them for her. It was ok that she answered them, I guess. I just wish I could've heard Martha's response. Also John tried to say something and he was cut off. (I think it was when he was making a comment about Oprah's beliefs.) What does anyone else feel about this? Another matter did anyone notice the commercials they showed? They appeared to be "family value" kind of commercials. This was my first time watching the Oprah Show. At first I was thinking was does Oprah falling in a hole have to do with TBAA? But then I realized that it wasn't a talk show where everything tied in together it was her own show. See ya. :) Andrea ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Mar 1997 21:15:20 -0500 (EST) From: deelady @ . .addy..com To: tbaangel @ . .execpc.com Subject: Re: When Angels Speak March 28, 1997 >From deelady @ . .addy..com Well I went and picked up my copy of the new TBAA book. It is *great*. It has quotes from all the seasons. There is an execelent picture of all three of the angels on the cover (for all us girls crazy about Andrew/John it is a *must* for your collection!). I'll share a few of my favs with you from the book: God creates us all in His image. There are no second-class citizens, no minorities, no human being greater or lessor than the other. We are all the smae in His eyes. All the world is *not* a stage, and all the men and women are *not* merely players. Who you are and what you do matters to God. But how charming you are or how many autograpghs you sign or how many little gold statues you have on your coffee table is not going to impress the Creator of the universe. You can play all the roles you want, but it doesn't make a lick of difference if you're not playing the *one* part God wrote for you: you. Just *you*. What you need to know about the past is that no matter what has happened, it has all worked together to bring you to this very moment. And this is the moment you can choose to make everything new. Right now. Of course my favorite *cute* one is this: Roses are red, Angels are gossamer. Hold on to your souls, And make sure you floss some more. Edsels are old, And Packards Jurassic. But never lose faith, 'Cause your Caddy's a Classic! About the Oprah show: Andrea stated: >Also John tried to say something and he was cut off. (I think it was when he >was making a comment about Oprah's beliefs.) >What does anyone else feel about this? I agree that Oprah cut all the Angels (as IMHO they really are) off whenever the subject got a little too deep or too personal (like when John asked his question to Oprah!). As for Della talking too much, well all I have to say on that is, if anyone could shut Oprah up - Della could do it. She made sure to get the point home that it is a God thing, even when Oprah kept interrupting the others. Way to go Della! I gotta get off here for now, we have some severe storms in the area and I definately don't want this *thing* to get blown up again. Until Later. TTFN. But i also did not think Della spoke too much - she didn't have enough time to say all the things she needed to say. I think it's great that big time TV has, because of viewer pressure, had to admit that God is bigger than they are! Especially at the start of the segment, i thought it so appropriate that the 3 commentators had such an abrupt about face! bravo for our favorite show! john ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Mar 1997 01:50:21 -0500 (EST) From: Signpraise @ . .addy.com To: tbaangel @ . .execpc.com Subject: Re: on Oprah I enjoyed the interview with the TBAA cast and Martha Williamson, but I agree with Andrea, Della talked toooooooooo much. Everything that she said was good, and I enjoyed it, but since they only had about 25 minutes, she could have let the others talk more. And Oprah was about to be asked by John about her faith and her beliefs, but I think she avoided the questions too. Roma is sweet, but I would have liked to have heard more from her..but I feel she wasn't given enough of an opportunity. I could really sense that these 4 people are truly a family!!! I can almost imagine all of them getting together and having good quality "family time." I can also imagine Roma not having a chance to speak as much as the others. A lot of families have someone who talks too much and someone who doesn't have enough of an opportunity to talk much at all, while the others(John and Martha) are in between. 0:-) I loved the way they showed bits and pieces of the show...and I was happy for the audience. As we all know Oprah is a very giving person...I don't know who paid for all of those tee-shirts and books TBAA book, but each person in that audience was blessed to receive them...to wrap things up, the interview was a blessing as the show itself always is. Here's my take on it: I am not an Oprah fan, although I do highly respect her and watch her when she does something special (maybe once a quarter). I was absolutely overtaken by the energy of the combination of Della, Roma, and John. There was so much love there I could practically feel it through the television set. HOWEVER, I got the feeling Oprah felt overpowered by the three of them (although they certainly didn't seem overpowering to me). The Oprah shows I have seen, she seems to be more in the background, drawing out her guests, a little more gentle. After the introduction and clips, I felt like she felt she had to get a tighter grip over the situation. It appeared to me that TWICE she cut John Dye off when he was trying to make interesting points and really felt if Della had not spoken out as she had to during the interview, she would have never been heard. Della is very solid in belief that TBAA IS a God thing and I felt like that did not settle well with Oprah. (I sensed where Oprah's stance changed.) To me, it seemed appropriate for Della to jump in the way she did and COMPLETE her thoughts. She did not allow Oprah to try and veer the conversation into a slant of her choosing instead. I commend Della for her fortitude in that area. I know what you're saying about having Martha answer, but I wonder if she had, if she would have been able to say what SHE wanted to say, instead of being cut off by Oprah. I saw a place where it seemed like Della answered too fast for Martha, but after I thought about the way the interview progressed I couldn't fault Della for it. Then again, the Oprah show is the only place I can think of that the three of them could take that much time to discuss the show. Most talk shows these days don't give guests alot of time to talk before they move on to the next guest. It was great to see them on TV like that, but I think they should use a better forum. With the success of the show, I think the network could get away with an hour special "Behind the Scenes of TBAA" so an editor can equal out talk time between everyone. That way we can truly hear every one say what they want to say uninterupted and without pressure from an interviewer. I'd be willing to bet a TBAA special like that would get a pretty good rating...great thing to put on a night CBS is not strong in. But this is all JMHO. :) ===================================================================== In Love and Light, Sky Dancer ===================================================================== http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/3471/ ===================================================================== * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Virginia Beach, VA ---- Head for the Beach!!!! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ===================================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Mar 1997 10:17:09 -0600 From: DeWayne Watkins To: skydancer @ . .addy.net CC: tbaangel @ . .execpc.com Subject: Re: on Oprah I feel like a lot of people on the list are saying that oprah seemed unconfortable with the TBAA cast. Something that really aggravated me was when Della said that she was told by God that the show would be on for 10 years and the audiance laughed and oprah seemed to make a mockery out of this statement. I don't know if oprah's or the audiance response bothered anyone else but it did me. God does speak to us today. I did hear oprah say something that led me to think she did believe in God when she said they said a prayer on television a few years ago. Mostly tho she did seem condensending and skeptical. I think Della, Roma, John and Martha did a wonderful job taking the show away from oprah and giving it to God. I think however with this subject matter and the guest they should have been on the whole hour. The other guest was ok and I'm not taking anything away from him but the Angels were cut way too short and should have had the whole hour. These are some of my thoughts. May God Bless F. I found myself talking back to the screen saying "Let him (her) finish!" I was especially interested in hearing what John Dye had to say and was very disappointed when I wasn't able to. It seemed to me that he was starting to make some very interesting points and wasn't able to finish them. Especially when he was talking about the letters and feedback the show has received. (Ok, I was hoping they would mention us! :->) I understand the time restraints of network television, but I was very disappointed in this interview. Someone else mentioned that the show should have allotted the entire hour to the Angels, and I whole heartedly agree. If they can give the whole hour to "3rd Rock From The Sun", they can give the same amount of time to TBAA. I like Jon Secada, don't get me wrong, and the story about the hole was hysterical, but I had heard the whole thing months ago on Jay Leno. Just my $.02. Rebecca rebwald @ . .addy.com PS. I'm planning on picking up the TBAA book to read on the plane when I go to see my family next month. Can't wait! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Mar 1997 15:54:00 -0800 From: Jason Saffer To: tbaangel @ . .execpc.com Subject: Introduction Hi everyone! We'd like to introduce ourselves to others on the TBAA list and say hello. We're Linda and Jason from northern California (the Berkeley area, to be exact) and we have been avid fans of the show from day ONE! At the beginning of each TV season, we take a careful look at TV Guide's descriptions of new shows, and when we saw TBAA's description, we knew this show was for us! As old fans of Michael Landon's Highway to Heaven, and as lovers of shows like the Waltons, we figured this would be our kind of show. How right we were! And it was such a great experience to witness the miracle of the show's moving from the bottom of the charts to the #2 show in the country. What heartening news! We *always* are brought to tears when we watch this superb production. The heartfelt presence of the best of humanity and God are always evident in this show -- not only in the absolutely creative plot lines, but in the motivation and commitment of the cast and creators of the show. We continue to just be blown away by the courage of the writers and producers to take on deep personal and social issues, and in such a positive and affirming way. It is really TV programming at its best, and we would hope that in the years to come, TBAA will be seen as an example of how useful and helpful the TV medium can be. We're both therapists (California licensed marriage, family, and child counselors) and we work together to provide counseling and therapy to people, with an emphasis on the "inner child" type of therapy popularized by John Bradshaw, the best-selling author and TV host. In fact, our counseling center, the Center for Creative Growth, was John Bradshaw's exclusive counseling affiliate in the San Francisco Bay area, while he had his hospital-based inpatient program in Los Angeles until 1994. As some TBAA viewers may know, John had his own "Oprah-type" (but better!) daily TV show this past Fall, called "The Bradshaw Difference," in which he also tackled some very real and very moving topics around personal growth, spirituality, and emotional healing. Alas, his show didn't enjoy the success of TBAA and has been cancelled by the Warner Brothers network. We'd especially like fellow TBAA fans to know that we're wishing to adopt a baby and are actively involved in searching for a pregnant girl or woman who is interested in adoption for her child. We don't have any children as yet and are very much looking forward to becoming "mommy and daddy." If anyone out there knows of someone, or has heard of someone who has heard of someone....who is pregnant and may be interested in finding a loving couple to adopt their newborn, please let us know, or pass on information about us to them. We've set up a lovely adoption web page about our adoption search (address below). Please come and visit. It's a pleasure to be able to share in the joys of TBAA with all of you. God willing, this beautiful show will provide entertainment and spiritual benefit to many for years to come!! ===> Jason and Linda Katz Saffer, writing from the San Francisco Bay Area We're Looking to Adopt a Baby! Signpraise - IMHO stands for: In My Humble Opinion. There are alot of "shortcuts" for phrases. If you want I could email you the oes I know. As for the Oprah show being too short for the angels to express all they wanted (and nedded) to say, I have a great idea. Why don't we all send a letter (or email, if I can find the address) to the President of CBS telling him how much we would like to see a "Behind the Scenes of TBAA" (I even think that would be a great title) show, where the angels (Martha too, as she's really the "head" angel)could each say what they would like to say about TBAA and it's special touches, without an interviewer. Maybe Martha could "lead" the discussion and "guide" us through TBAA. Althought I don't think one hour would be enough time for them all to say what they would like, we could sugest an hour special. What do you all think? After rewatching the Oprah tape, I have a question and a comment. Where John was saying no one would want the Angel of Death as a seatmate on an airplane ... well I don't know about any of you other girls, but he could be my seatmate on a plane, train, bus, car (...etc) anytime!! It wouldn't "bother" me in the least (bother meaning upset - not what it normally means, as I would be "bothered", I probably would be too excited from actually having met him to even think straight!). Any other "opinions on that subject? Second, I couldn't understand what John said his nickname from Della was. Did anyone understand it? If so, would you please fill me in? Well, gotta run. Need to get thing together for tomorrow (you know, hide all these eggs for this roudy 2 1/2 yr old to tear the house up to find. Plus getting things ready for dinner and church).
