"'Love Juice'. It's our little secret." John may have a point. How many people do *you* know that would be happy to see the Angel of Death sitting next to them on a plane? If they knew his true nature, they would get very nervous! I agree that Oprah should have given the cast and exec producer the whole hour to talk about the show. I'm disappointed that they weren't given more time to talk. I think Oprah cut off John Dye because she wasn't used to being upstaged by the Angel of Death! :) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Mar 1997 22:49:34 -0500 (EST) From: ERIC ISENBARGER To: TBAA Subject: The Rules >From Martha Wiliamson's book, here is a shortened list of rules the cast and crew follow on TBAA. It may help the discussion somewhat. Here they are: a. Angels do not have power over life and death. b. Angels do not lie. c. Angels do not disobey God's orders without serious consequences. d. Angels, in the strictest of terms, do not "have faith." e. Angels are not superstitious. f. Angels cannot change the past, nor do they predict or see into the future. g. Angels do not allow themselves to be the focus of worship. h. Angels must perform their duties on earth with human bodies that don't always do what they want them to do. i. Special dispensation-occasionally, God will lift the rules of nature or time or physics to accomplish His purpose. j. The Angel of Death is nothing to be afraid of. k. Angels are not all in the choir. l. Angels, though capable of performing small miracles with the power God allows them, prefer to rely on truth rather than tricks to make a point. m. Angels work on a "need to know" basis. n. Angels are not "recycled dead people," but created beings, creatures fashioned by God. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Mar 1997 20:26:28 -0800 From: marlis ostermann To: tbaangel @ .execpc.com Subject: Oprah vs Xena I watched the Oprah show from my sister's place, as the reception there is much better. Unfortuneately, I had to share the airtime with my niece who wanted to watch Xena(with Hudson ;-), so I missed bits of it(we were flipping back and forth). Does anyone know if the Oprah show sells tapes of shows? I know they sell transcrips, but I'd like to have a video copy. I enjoy watching interviews and behind the scenes glimpses because it gives one a chance to see the actors out of character, although I wasn't sure where Tess ended, and Della started (not that I minded, I like Tess ;-) From what I did see, She did seem to dominate the interview somewhat, but like others have mentioned, Oprah might not have let anyone get their point across otherwise. I really liked the sense of joy and comaraderie the group had. They really have a great chemistry together. And how about the standing ovation the crowd gave Della as she came in? They really liked her. I'd love to hear her preach some day. She makes no bones about her convictions. And John looked exceptionally handsome, as always *sigh* Now, a bit of a side note. Has anyone read Frank Peretti's "This Present Darkness", or its sequel "Piercing the Darkness"? It's about angels as well, and about spiritual warfare around a little town called Ashton. The angels are fairly different from the TBAA universe, but it gives a bit of a different perspective. They're both great reading. I couldn't put them down. I've finished reading the first TBAA book, loved it, and am looking forward to the next. By the way, I was snooping through the archives of the digests before I joined, and there was some talk about a TBAA chat through MIRC, or something else. Is that active? I'd like to join if there is one. Anyways, I've blabbed enough for now ;-) GB's (God's Blessings 0:-) to one and all. Kay According to the New York Post, CBS will have a >> 3-drama lineup on April 13 hosted by Roma Downey of >> "Touched by an Angel". After "60 Minutes", CBS will >> air a lineup of new episodes of "Touched by an Angel", >> "Early Edition" and a first-run "Chicago Hope". The >> speculation is that CBS may drop one of its movie >> nights for the fall because of its increasing scheduling >> committments. So the April 13 experiment may >> determine if CBS drops its Sunday movie for drama >> programming on a more permanent basis. >On the one hand, CBS generally picks up the rear in the Sunday movie >department (or at least, it seems like they have over the past 2-3 years, >or so), so this may not be a bad idea. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 30 Mar 1997 07:49:59 -0500 (EST) From: IDyeForYou @ .addy.com To: tbaangel @ .execpc.com Subject: Re: Oprah sho In a message dated 97-03-29 23:13:59 EST, you write: << I think Oprah cut off John Dye because she wasn't used to being upstaged by the Angel of Death! :) >> I think she cut him off...cause he was about to get personal and she lost her cool... But I wanted to add my two cents to the Oprah discussion. I, too, thought that she was a little short with them. I've watched Oprah only a few times and she seems to cut her guests off a lot--either to keep the show moving or because she's uncomfortable with the conversation, or...? Whatever. One thing I saw that no one has mentioned yet and it struck me deeply. Did you notice when Della and Roma came out, that John met them at the edge of the stage and they all shared "love you"s? (I think that's what they were saying.) It was sincere, too, at least it seemed to me that it was. How nice to see co-workers who care enough about one another to say so. Just a thought. Hmm... well, knowing lead times for TV episodes, I'm going to claim I had a case of good timing when I said: On Tue, 25 Mar 1997, gryphon @ addy.com wrote: >One thing I would dearly love to see is an episode where a human the >angels are sent to help *doesn't* believe the angels are angels and >therefore rejects their message from honest doubt. I mean, there are sincere, *intelligent* people out there who would doubt fron conviction, not from lazy cynicism. But I probably shouldn't complain until I see how it ends. Poor Monica! She's obviously used to being taken completely seriously. Welcome to real life, Monica.. :( Commercial's over, back to the show... In-joke to Jennie: So, Andrew's "the guy" now, huh? ;> Andrew as a pool shark... hmmm.... nice suit... :) I like the way he drew the truth out of the crowd. Obviously, Andrew has more experience at this than Monica. And the way the people gradually emerge as real, rather sad people with real, rather sad stories. People who have given up, who have decided to settle for what they know, what they're sure of, but people with a basic level of decency. And interesting that when Monica was unsure, she didn't "glow" and nobody believe her, but as soon as she went out there with conviction, people noticed.... Commercial again. Interesting how just knowing Monica is real changes them, isn't it? Suddenly, none of them doubts, but none of them feels "worthy" of a miracle, either. But I don't understand why Monica didn't just tell them that being "worthy" isn't the point. And interesting that each of them, who a minute ago was convinced they were the most miserable person on earth, suddenly thinks someone else is worse off than them. It's all relative, isn't it? Commercial, on to the finale.. I like that the miracle wasn't something big and flashy, but just opened hearts and forgiveness. That's the sort of miracle, IMHO, God gives every day, and we poor mortals don't appreciate far too often. And Monica and Andrew dancing at the end is a cute touch... but where will "Amethyst" sleep tonight? Wasn't the point that she didn't *have* anywhere to sleep? All the same, this is TBAA as I remember it, as I missed it during the last few months. It's good to see they got their "zing" back. :) Oo... my favorite ep (the one with the Jewish archaeologist in Navaho Country) is being re-run next week! I'll have to be sure to watch it... This episode may end up being one of the ones I cannot watch a second time around. Maybe when I can calm down, I can get my thoughts and feelings down (as I do have them, I just can't get them out). So pardom me if I don't respond to it for a day or two. Until later. deelady @ .addy..com -------------------------------- End of tbaangel-d Digest V97 Issue #23 **************************************
