My name is Sue Gerber, (just like the baby food company) and I am a huge TBAA fan. I first watched it on and off during the first season (unfortunately I didn't have a working VCR back then) started watching and taping it more regularily during the second season, before finally becoming fully "hooked" on it last May, when I watched the "Birthmarks" ep. The main reason why I started regularily watching it in the first place was when it was on Saturday nights, it was on right after my favorite show, at the time, Dr. Quinn (now DQMW is my second favorite series). I love the cast, especially Roma (my fave "angel") the guest stars, and the "semi - regulars", and think that they all do outstanding work. After all of that, here's some info about what I'm like. I'm a single 'gal in my 30's. I grew up (raised Catholic, and I have 5 brothers and sisters) on a farm in south eastern MN, and am now currently living and working in Waseca, a small industrial town in south central MN. After changing jobs a few times, I'm currently employed at a small plant that manufactures heat guages where I'm involved in the assembly and testing of circuit boards. I work 2nd shift, (4:00 PM to 2:30 AM, Monday - Thursday) so I keep kind of odd hours and am a regular "night owl"! In my spare time, I have a variety of interests, including the outdoors, doing crafts, and going to various small town and cultural events. A unique interest of mine is old antique farming methods and ways, as my dad and one of my brothers go to and sometimes exhibit at old farm steam engine shows, and got me interested in going too. I also am very interested in wildlife and conversation, as well as domestic animals. But most of all I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, including one very special "Gerber baby", my little nephew, Robert Rascon Jr., 10 months old (who coincidantally was born only a few day's before Roma's daughter, Reilly) who belongs to my younger sister, Linda, and her boyfriend, Robert Sr. Spending time with little Robert brings much joy and happiness into my (and my family's) life! I have found most of the posts on here very interesting, and think that it's really great the way TBAA has grown among the fans, and I am happy to be sharing my enthusiasm for it with so many others! Some my favorite ep's, among the ones that I have taped, are "Tough Love", "Fear not" "Operation Smile" "Dear God", "Ground Rush", and "The Sky is Falling". I also try to watch and tape everything and anything else that is TBAA related or with Roma in it, plus magazine and newspaper articles of course, so I've built up quite a collection that continues to grow! I even have 2 autographed B & W photos, one is a cast photo, that appears to be a copy, and one personally autographed by Roma, which she sent me last summer, shortly after she had Reilly. Like many of the others on here, I agree that having a TBAA convention would be a great idea, and would do anything to make it there, if such a thing were ever to take place! Even if if not, it's always fun to "fantasize" about it! Well I'm going to close with a one of my favorite quotes from TBAA: "Why does God put peoples faces in front? To see where they're going, instead of where they've been!" From the "Out of the Darkness" ep. That's it for now, and I look forward to seeing more posts and perhaps posting a few more (though not nearly as long as this one) of my own! I say we have it in someplace like Chicago or Oklahoma City. Not just 'cause it's closer for me, but that it would be more toward the center of the country for those of us who have a very limited budget and can't fly all the way across country. :) >hotel. Conventions are certainly nothing new in fandom-look at all of the >sci-fi cons (I've been to a few myself!). Why not a TBAA convention? Nothing Convention organizing isn't TOO hard I don't think, but it sure isn't too EASY either. It would definatly cost you - renting the room(s), telling the hotel to reserve so many rooms (if you do it that way, some cons let us deal with that ourselves. I prefer the other way. Have you ever tried to find a room in Minneapolis during a Trek convention?! ACKK! :), food stands, security (usually just volunteers), getting any "stars" to come (they usually charge a pretty penny, and you'd have to pay for their airfare/room/food. Though if any of the cast would come for free, I'd say it'd be John. He just seems like that kind of guy from all I've seen :) and there's tons more crap you'd have to work out. All the bueracratic nightmares, scheduling conflicts, AAAGGGHH! Of course, all that is your typical Star Trek/scifi/Highlander convention. You don't *have* to do all of that, especially if we're only talking about a little get-together for members of the list. But if you wanted to actually do a *convention* you'd have to be willing to fork over a bit of dough. This could pose a slight problem, because unlike the other conventions, you wouldn't have ten zillion venders helping you pay for guest speaker costs. (usually the venders have to pay for their floor space, and in the scifi cons, there's enough venders to pay for about four guests) >fancy, maybe just a day of meeting and talking to the stars, a few discussion >groups, some times to share our feelings about the message of the show. Oprah >could even come, if she'd promise to behave herself! : ) Yep, there's all kinds of fun stuff that you could plan for a convention. In the Star Trek world of cons, there's costume contests, trivia contests, auctions, and fun games. For TBAA, ummm, you could possibly have the first three of the above plus maybe...ring toss angel-halo style? There could also be showings of favorite episodes, that's a common feature of scifi cons. You'd have to buy the rights to show them though, that would cost some money too. And if you want Oprah to *really* come, have it in Chicago. ;) >The only problem would be containing ourselves when John shows up...gotta >control the "Androol"... No kidding. To toss my two cents in, I prefer men's hair long and pulled back. I just have a *thing* for guys in ponytails. :) I still like John's hair down though, like someone else, I love it when the "light" shines on it. :D -TT >DelanySis1 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (-|-) TIL--TAOS-L--IPAPCT--KID--ONE--LOVEU--DMFW--MFWC--HL'er ->--- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Join "Star Trek Top Ten List of the Day!" I've got my vote in for Salt Lake City, because let's face it...if they are shooting, they are going to probably be too busy to make appearances. But if we were in SLC it would be much more condusive to them being able to "drop in" on us if they felt they could swing it. (No cost to them for air fare, hotel, etc.) I would think we would want to aim closer towards a date near the start of the new season when we might be able to catch them while they are just getting settled in for the season. That would give people time to plan and take advantage of any air fare discounts that might be available. If we scheduled it around people arriving Friday (social gathering Friday night to acquaint ourselves) and leaving Monday we would probably get the better airfares. Airlines typically want you to stay over the weekend. > > You don't *have* to do all of that, especially if we're only talking about > a little get-together for members of the list. I think it would be easier the first time around to keep it to the listmembers and locals (unless CBS is willing to take on something as big as a convention). It wouldn't be hard to administer a smaller group. Hotels are usually very eager to offer group rates out of season (after school starts?) without signing anything (especially if they have the rooms). We could put of a vehicle to start taking input into discussion groups (I have room on my web page) and create a skeleton agenda. Even if the stars aren't available, perhaps we could get a list of locations and what EPs they were from and take a side trip (ex: the church in "Fear Not" or the dig sight from last week's EP). Again we could gather which locations people would most like to see. If we seriously want to do this, we should get a contact list of people together (who knows Martha or her secretary to see what dates would be the most condusive to being able to "run into" the cast, who is in Salt Lake and can go visit some hotels to see what they are like or figure out a time efficient map for site visits, etc.) to investigate the various options and put out a prelimary date to see exactly how many people we could attract. If we can get a few committed people together to plan it, I'm sure we could pull it off. > >The only problem would be containing ourselves when John shows up...gotta > >control the "Androol"...
