It even had my mom laughing (which is a tough feat since laughing sometimes makes her cough). Funny part 1) When Monica thought she had everything all figured out about her assignment, and all those looks Tess was giving her. :-) Funny part 2) "Hearing is always the first to go." -Tess My sister commented that she thought the saying was "Memory is always the first to go." The line was funny, yes. But it was great of TBAA to show that not only did Monica *look* old, but she also *felt* old, and had the same characteristics of an 80-year old. (Loss of hearing, etc.) Funny Part 3) Tess had her dog!! :-) Funny Part 4) Tess being a big fan of "blunt." (That one had my mom laughing.) Funny Part 5) Tess' dog going from Tess, to a not-too happy looking George to a surprised Andrew. Funny Part 6) Yes, I agree...Andrew's reaction to seeing Monica was totally awesome. Funny Part 7) In the end Andrew and George arguing about the cooking instructions. Funny Part 8) "Don't look at me angel boy." -Tess I thought it was kinda cute that she called Andrew that. :-) Of course, there were many touching moments also. * Monica having to break George's heart and explain who she really was. * George telling the truth. * Oh jeez...I forgot her name...Monica's roomie when she had George read the letter her husband had sent about the cook. * The nursing home admin who admitted why she kept the piano locked up. * Monica's letter to her former roomie, that she recited to George. But anyway, I think that's enough for now. Any man would be blessed to have some of the qualities that John has, and any woman in the life of a man with those qualities is lucky, indeed! (I'm speaking from experience a little, here; I have a special friend who exhibits some of these same qualities. I feel I'm very blessed to know him. . .not a serious romance at this point--just a very dear, and caring friend.) Last night's ep. wasn't it beautiful!?! How about our little angel girl? Quite a stretch (playing an elderly woman) for the beautiful and talented Roma, but she did an incredible job! It was *so* touching. the scene between Andrew, and the elderly Monica, as he placed the quilt over her, and knelt down at her side. his strength, his compassion, his love and understanding of God, and His ways were all right there, as he tenderly comforted Monica. Monica's speech re "human love is so complicated. it hurts to be loved like this." Showed Monica at her best, as she struggles to learn the "lessons" all good angels must know. Tess's smile, as she spoke to the rest home administrator (about the piano, and telling the truth) was wonderful to behold. She really "glowed"--but it came from within Della, not from the special effects "holy angel glow" used in the show. You can tell that working on this series is a real "labor of love" for all three of these performers; they so believe in what they are doing, and the show has brought so much joy to each of them, that it just spills over into their acting. We, their fans, reap the benefits of that, each week we are privileged to view TBAA. Yes, Roma is married to director David Anspaugh since November of 1995. They were married in the French chateau featured in episode #107, "Unexpected Snow" with Della Reese performing the ceremony. Their first child, Reilly Marie, was born in June of 1996. She was pregnant throughout the end of the second season of TBAA. During those episodes you'll notice a lot of head shots of Roma. Although I must admit that I came in right where she was transformed into her older self. I was channel surffing waiting for 60 minutes to go off. So I am not sure what transpried at the very first. All the comments so far have also expressed my opinion as well. One point I wanted to recomment on is this. Diane E wrote Knowing, from last week's preview, that George ends up falling for Monica, I can see it coming. He was obviously flirting with her in the park scene. And Monica, equally obviously, didn't catch it. Which makes perfect sense, because Monica just doesn't think of herself as 'available'. My take on this was that being an angel, Monica had no way of knowing what was going on. She had no bases for which it catch on to what was going on. JMHO. And the only thing that I didn't like about the show was the ending with the administrator. After her heartfelt speech about being told she was no good for piano lessons by her father. And her resentment of people who could play the piano. She sits down and plays quiet well. If she could play that well with only a few lessons, then she did have the talent. I thought a better ending would have been for her to ask Monica's roommate (yes, I forgot her name too) to teach her how to play the piano. And for them to sit down and start a lesson. JMHO. The only other thing I wanted to ask was, did anyone else notice that this ep was the one that Oprah showed sences from? If I don't miss my mark this was the very show. Any comments? Well I got to go. Let me know what you think. I don't really have a favorite ep, just favorite moments. Last night's ep was full of new favorite moments. I enjoyed all of the ones the rest of y'all have mentioned so far, and I did find this ep to be very funny at times. I love to see the angels' concern for each other. I liked the way Tess reassured Monica when she first "aged" as well as the way Andrew took care of her when she was in pain. That reminds me: one of the things I am really curious about is whether or not and to what extent the angels can be injured. What would happen if one of them were shot (or whatever)? Would God just remove them from harm? Could they remove themselves from harm (as Monica did when the rope broke in the first season Christmas ep)? I'm sure we'll find out eventually. Many of my questions have been answered in various eps. The only thing that really disappointed me was that Andrew didn't recognize Monica. My understanding is that the physical appearance is not intrinsic to the angels as it is to humans. I mean, they have mentioned more than once the possibility of getting a new human form. I would think the angels would recognize each other at a deeper level than the physical. (JMHO) Maybe it was just that he wasn't expecting to see her there, and so wasn't really *looking*. I would like to know, though, if angels are ever able to recognize each other in unfamiliar human form. John Dye's first appearance was in #209, "The One That Got Away." He became a series lead starting with #217, "Dear God." He appeared in 4 other episodes inbetween those two. I think he's appeared in every one since. FYI: A quote from Martha Williamson: "John Dye joined us, playing an angel of death who was a former caseworker and protege of Tess's. John, a gentleman from Mississippi, brought great love and energy to this role. We loved him so much that we were tempted to start killing off all the characters just so we could have him back every week. Was that This wasn't Andrew, it was Adam, played by Charles Rocket. I believe he played the AOD for all of first season. Second season started with Henry as the AOD (someone help me, I can't remember the actor's name...) in a couple of episodes. The thing is, up through that point, we generally only saw the AOD in a scene or two in an occasional ep, and we always, or nearly always, saw them in scenes with Roma. I think the point to bringing Andrew in was to establish him as a character earlier on in her pregnancy and then use him more and more in the storylines as he was needed. That's the impression I have, anyhow. In any case, Andrew's character certainly seemed more fully developed from the outset than any of the other AODs had been, and I think he's the first AOD to have scenes that didn't involve Monica. Roma was quite a trooper, though. She stayed very active in the storylines and plots all the way through to the end of the season. And they can't have finished filming much more than a month or so before Reilly was born, so she *really* hung in there. Anyhow, John Dye first appeared in the episode titled, "The One That Got Away", which aired somewhere right around Christmastime during second season. I think he got upgraded to a regular castmember somewhere around "Dear God" or "Lost and Found". That would have been spring of 1996. My memory is a wee bit fuzzy on all this, but it's approximately how all this happened. :-) take care, Jennie finabair @ . addy.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Apr 1997 15:10:25 -0700 From: Kevin Brown To: "tbaangel @ . execpc.com" , "'lee4afpa'" Subject: RE: Various: this week's episode MSG.dns.addy.com> > From: lee4afpa[SMTP:lee4afpa @ . earthlink.net] > > Someone else mentioned a better ending would have been for Lorraine > > to give the administrator piano lessons.
