This is my first time posting on the new list, but I have been a member of the previous list since it first started. Just for a brief intro: my name is Jeannine; I'm 25 now, and I grew up in California which is also where I did my undergraduate work. I am a musician - a flute player more specifically - and aafter graduating went off to a conservatory in Ohio for my graduate work and then after getting my Masters, I stayed for my doctorate. Now that I am _finally_ nearing the end of the work for my doctorate degree (yippee!), I'm hoping that I will be blessed enough in the future to perform for a living - something that is hard to do in this business.... I've been watching TBAA since December of 1995 and have been hooked ever since! Right now it is one of the few shows that I never miss and always make sure I record for keeps! :-) I was just rewatching last weeks episode (again) and was thinking about the theme. At the conservatory that I attend, we have a something called the Student Artists Program. Eligible students (that's really anyone who wants to) can sign up for it and then perform at convalescent homes/hospitals. I have only been involved since January, but the performances I have given for these older people have been great, not only for them, but also for me. I really think that paying attention to the elderly by the young is one of the best things that we can do. The scene during this last episode where Tess is getting everyone to sing, and brings in the piano is so wonderful! When I come with my flute and my pianist, everyone's eyes light up and they all just seem to enjoy what is a break in their routine so much! I love doing it and want to try to do it more often - especially because this episode really helped light the fire under me even more. We are warned to keep the concerts to a maximun of 30 mintutes so that we don't "tire out" the residents. But, oh are the people in power wrong! Our last concert went exactly the alotted 30 minutes, but at the end, we were asked by many if we could please keep playing because it was too short! Just shows that music really can't do anyone any harm, as Tess said! Everyone at the hospital was very, very ill, and it was a great joy for me to bring some happiness and excitement into their lives! Anyway, just a few thoughts on watching what I thought was an amazing episode! I can't wait until we have another new one! Thanks for listening, Jeannine ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Apr 1997 20:48:08 -0400 (EDT) From: Finabair @ . .addy.com To: tbaangel @ . .execpc.com Subject: Fwd: Intro Karen is having some problems with the fact that the listserv is case-sensitive, but only sorta. I look forward to getting to know ya'll. Thanks for your time and patience. I'm new to this list and new to TBAA! I watch it partly cuz' of a really cute angel I discovered last weekend as the "Angel of Death"! John is soo adorable! :-)~~~~~ Since I am new- why don't I intro myself! My name is Kristin, I am 15 and I live in central Minnesota! I go to a Christian school, so I know about angels! 0-:-) I thought subscribing to this list would be cool so I can meet new friends and people who share the same interests! I saw the episode last weekend with Monica ( I guess that's her name) in a nursing home- I didn't see ALL of it, but I saw most of it and most of John! :-) It was very inspiring to me as well as alot of you guys I would think- I love Della Reese! Has anybody seen "The Boy who loved Christmas"? She was in that and she has a beautiful voice! Hear her sing "Your mama may have, your papa may have". She is just so talented! And Roma! My gosh! I LOVE her accent! Is she French or Italian? I don't know. But she is a very beautiful "angel" and she always will be, Does anyone know how they became angels in the first place? Like, how they died? They were *created* angels (which is Biblically correct, BTW). They are not ordinary humans who were "rewarded" by becoming angels after death, although I know that's what recent popular representations of angels (by recent, I mean the last century or so) has led a lot of people to assume Biblical angels *are*. This is made quite clear in a lovely episode called "Interview With An Angel", wherein Monica explains that all angels were created angels, start in the Heavenly Choir, and work their way up from there. Monica moved on to Annunciations ("You know, *behold*, and all that," as she herself phrased it) was transferred to Search and Rescue ("Fly in, whoosh, push the train back onto the tracks and then, whoosh, fly away again." Monica again. Paraphrased, but essentially accurate.) and then moved up to Caseworker. Andrew got promoted from Caseworker to Angel of Death (there's more than one of them), and now wants to get back into case work. And Tess got promoted from Caseworker (she was still one in the late '30s, according to "The Sky Is Falling") to Caseworker-Supervisor. Clear? If you have web access, you might want to check out the Episode guide on the TBAA homepage (there's a link from this list's website); it has nicely detailed summaries of every episode from previous seasons, and many from this season. That way, you'd have an idea what had happened before. :) Or not, if you'd rather be surprised by each new (or re-run) episode.... Any more questions? Oh, and welcome to the list! :) Diane E # "Far be it from me... to depreciate such pleasures. But # # I confess they would have no charms for *me*. I should # # infinitely prefer a book." I'm Catholic homeschooled, in the 10th grade, and I live over in central Wisconsin. So, you can tell me what kind of weather I'll be getting tomarrow. I don't know what your interests are, but I'm involved in 4-H, love horses (have three of the hay-burners), breed Russian hamsters, a total computer nerd, Christian music (gotta love them Newsboys!). I am also a total Trekkie, and I plan on becoming a medical doctor. So, what's your cup 'o tea? And are you guys being affected by the major flooding? -TT the 2nd, a fellow member of the J/AiA belief (John/Andrew is Adorable ;)~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (-|-) TIL--TAOS-L--IPAPCT--KID--ONE--LOVEU--J/AiA--DMFW--MFWC ->--- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Join "Star Trek Top Ten List of the Day!" BTW I live and work in Waseca, so I'm a little ways from you, though I was up near Brainerd about a year and and a half ago, when I stayed at Cragun's Resort for several days, for orientation trianing that I had to go through when I joined the AmeriCorps program. Cragun's is such a lovely place and I really enjoyed the "treatment" that I recieved there, as I'm not used to getting such "luxury"! Anyhow I'm a huge (and very "devoted") TBAA fan too and love it and the cast (especially Roma) too! I started watching it on and off during it during the first season, (unfortunately I didn't have a working VCR at the time, so I couldn't tape any of the ep's) then I started watching (and eventually taping it when I got a VCR) during the second season, and became totally "hooked" on it towards the end of last season, when the "Birthmarks" ep was shown. In addition to that ep, some of my other favorite ep's are "Tough Love" and "Fear Not" from the first season, "Operation Smile" and "Dear God", from second season, and "Ground Rush" and "The Sky Is Falling" from this season. I also really love the ep that was just shown, since it showed Roma's incredible range of acting so well, as she really "shined" in this one! If you're interested at all in corresponding with me, you're welcome to (privately) email me here on AOL, as I wasn't sure as to how to do it in order to get back to you. Thanks! A TBAA fan always, Sue P.S. Didn't you just love the way Monica first pronounced "Bemidji" in the ep that was on a few weeks ago on Easter Sunday! :-) -------------------------------- End of tbaangel-d Digest V97 Issue #42 **************************************
